Senior Vice President
Bob, as he is more commonly known, can often be found, in-person or virtually, in deep discussion with the team about all facets of our business. His drive to fully dissect a topic in the trenches with the team makes Bob an inspiring, effective leader. He believes that company success is achieved by unleashing the full potential of our team members by putting them in positions to be part of the solution. Empathy, integrity, community, and diversity are not just words on poster boards—they are the shared values that Bob lives by and leads with every day.
Prior to joining the team in 2019, Bob spent 14 years at American Modern Insurance, serving in various leadership roles, including Vice President of the company’s pet health insurance program. In addition, he has served on the board of directors for the North American Pet Health Insurance Association (NAPHIA). Bob lends his voice to many industry initiatives that assist pet parents, insurance providers and the industry at large help more pets live longer, happier, healthier lives.
Bob has a B.A. in economics from Vanderbilt University and an M.B.A. from Rollins College. He and his wife, Barbara, have two adult children, an awesome grandson, and are pet parents to a very handsome and engaging orange American Shorthair cat named Hank.
VP, Customer Engagement and Marketing
An energetic and thoughtful leader, Vice President Liz Watson is passionate about building brands that engage with pet parents where they are. She is responsible for implementing and optimizing the various departments that drive the business. With an overall focus on strategic direction and the customer journey, this incorporates the efforts of customer experience, service, financial, and operational initiatives in support of the company.
Inspired by her co-workers, the creative environment, and the four-legged friends who run around the office, Liz considers her work to be a passion project. She approaches each challenge as an opportunity to learn and to foster a positive team mentality.
Prior to joining our team, Liz gained 24 years of product and brand management experience as Senior Director of Marketing, Midwest Market, for Time Warner Cable. She holds an M.B.A. in marketing from The Ohio State University and a B.S.B.A. in finance and accounting from The University of Akron. Liz is a board member for the Greater Akron Chamber and a devoted pet parent to six furry family members. Her pals include two dogs, Henry and Gracie, and four cats, Marmalade, Marmaduke, Murphy, and Arugula.
VP, Chief Information Officer
Chief Information Officer Mike Kalman has more than 20 years of expertise formulating technological solutions, offering strategic direction, conducting business process re-engineering, and managing operations. At Crum & Forster Pet Insurance Group™, he oversees software, development, databases, technology infrastructure, cloud operations, test automation, production application support, operational workflow systems, and phone systems. Always looking forward, Mike takes pride in analyzing trends to better place the business in an ideal position to meet future challenges and demands within the industry. A people person who loves his work and coworkers, Mike champions soft skills and believes any successful business relationship revolves around the people.
Prior to joining the team at Crum & Forster Pet Insurance Group™ in 2005, Mike held the position of CTO at Micro-Office Medical Information and ECRM. He also served as Director of Intranet Development (Americas) at British Petroleum. Mike holds a B.S. in cognitive science from the University of California, San Diego. He is married and has three children.
VP, Compliance & Legal
Leading the company’s compliance department, Patricia Adams, VP of Legal & Compliance, is responsible for navigating Crum & Forster Pet Insurance Group™ through the complex world of compliance, regulatory, and legal matters.
After a decade with the company, Patricia has established herself as a trusted advisor to the company. Patricia humbly breaks down her role as a focus on two things: protecting the company and developing people. Additionally, she sees a strong connection between the two, noting: “Compliance extends well beyond our small team of analysts. Every employee plays a part, so it’s our job to provide the proper direction and training and empower our staff.”
Patricia and her husband, Todd, are the proud parents of their son, Charlie, and share a home with their dog.
As VP of Finance for Crum & Forster Pet Insurance Group™, Chris Chaney provides strategic leadership and coordination of company financial planning, budget management, reporting, and accounting. One of the longest-tenured employees, Chris exemplifies the core values of reliability and stability, crucial characteristics for any financial executive.
As an extension of his strong work ethic, when not crunching numbers for his day job, Chris and his wife Kelly work the family farm, tending to an Angus herd of more than 100 cows and calves. In fact, he considers this endeavor the perfect balance in working with numbers all day, describing it as the “hobby every CFO should undertake.”
Previously, Chris worked with Rea & Associates, a top 100 ranked CPA firm. Additionally, he’s very involved with his church, having a role on the organization’s finance committee and participating in annual mission trips.
Chris has a business accounting degree from Kent State University. He and his wife have a son named John.
Chief Underwriting Officer
Sam and her team seek to generate sustainable underwriting profits in the US, Canada, UK, and across our emerging markets. She focuses much of her time on reviewing our claims and expense ratios as well as tracking our growth while managing our combined operating performance.
Previously, Sam served as Managing Director for Pet Protect UK (a Crum & Forster company), Head of Market Performance and Operations at UK Water Market Operator, and Head of Strategic Operations and Partnerships at Allianz Insurance PLC. She holds certifications from the Chartered Institute of Insurance and Chartered Institute of Personnel Development at Newcastle University.
She now lives in Toronto, Ont., with her wife, Hayley, and their two sons, Liam and Connor. The family can’t wait to pick up where they left off in England, which featured weekends packed with soccer and rugby.
In her role, Margo seeks to optimize operational and administrative procedures, reporting structures, financial management, and controls within the company. She is committed to improving communications and driving efficiency to create new processes to ensure day-to-day operational excellence.
Having held numerous roles within the organization, most recently as VP, Product, Pricing, and Risk Management, she worked as a Risk Manager for TDL Group (Tim Hortons) prior to joining the team. She earned an Honors Bachelor of Arts and Canadian Risk Management designation from the University of Toronto and is currently working towards a Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) certification from the Insurance Institute of Canada.
Margo and her fiancé, Darryn, share their home with Fletcher, a 3-year-old Rottweiler, and Holly, a 5-year-old Labrador. She loves home renovation, cooking, gardening, and the Toronto Blue Jays.
An innovative leader with strong relationship-building skills, Eric oversees the partner and veterinary channel distribution teams at C&F Pet. In that role, he is responsible for developing and executing North American market strategies, contributing to overall company premium goals, combined operating ratio targets, and financial milestones.
In the past, he was General Manager at Care Credit Canada prior to being Top Dog at Pets Plus Us concurrently with VP Canada and Strategic Partners North America at Pethealth Inc. (a former Crum & Forster company). He earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree from McMaster University, Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) certification from Insurance Institute of Canada, and Certified Sales Leader designation (CSL) from the Canadian Professional Sales Association.
Eric and his wife, Ann Marie, have three children, Erica, Emily, and Richard, and two four-legged family members, Poli (a Yellow Labrador) and Bruin the cat. He is a Board Member of Community Veterinary Outreach, whose mandate is to improve the health of homeless and vulnerably-housed communities by providing veterinary care to their pets.
Director, Human Resources
Leading all things people and culture at C&F Pet, Amanda charts the course for her team, senior leadership, and the organization. She is responsible for all aspects of HR, including but not limited to talent planning, employee engagement, employee relations, risk management, change management, performance management, organizational design, learning and development, compensation planning and evaluation, talent acquisition, and diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Amanda’s past work experience includes VP, Human Resources Director for First Federal Savings Bank, Human Resources Manager for Title First Agency, Inc., Human Resources Manager for The Ohio State University, and, most recently, AVP, Human Resources Office and AVP, HR Business Partner Senior at Huntington National Bank. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in sociology with a minor life sciences and a master’s in labor and human resources from The Ohio State University. She has been certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) since 2001.
In the past, Amanda has been President of her local SHRM Chapter (where they earned a superior rating), Diversity Director for the Ohio SHRM State Council, and has been asked to speak at local schools to help students with workforce readiness. Amanda also volunteered with Feeding Medina County and Buckeye Bulldog Rescue, where she was a foster dog Mom to seven bulldogs. She is married with two teenagers and one dog, a Japanese Chin-Bichon mix named Chewbacca.
